As part of their 12 week programme with The Princes Trust and Defcon Workshops, the young people in Team 7 from City Of Westminster College took on a unique artistic challenge;
The new College building emerging on Paddington Green has a hoarding around it. Instead of decorating it with the usual blurb and pretty pictures, the college wanted something different, something to celebrate the College and its values. So CWC approached Eine, a leading street (ie legal graffiti) artist.
Eine (Ben Flynn) has been featured in Time Out as one of the six top street artists working in Britain today. His work is all over Shoreditch/Brick Lane and has also been shown in London, Newcastle, Stockholm and Paris – and he said yes! See his work atwww.einesigns.co.uk.
This enhanced podcast shows the hard work involved in this project. It’s daring to be different, also innovative, vibrant and contemporary – all the things the young people have work hard to be. Also, because of the involvement of The Prince’s Trust Team 7 students, it’s inclusive. They are collaborating with Eine and helping to create a gigantic and memorable piece of original artwork.
The finished artwork measures 60m in length and 3m in height – making it one of the largest temporary artworks ever to appear on London’s streets.
The phrase ‘Making Magnificent Minds’ was chosen by Eine (famous for his lettering) to sum up both the College’s goals and the cutting edge design of the schmidt hammer lassen building being created behind the hoarding (and opening in 2011).
